1. You could discuss Janie's development as a character; moving from a meek and submissive woman to a woman who finds her voice.
2. Compare and contrast Janie's three marriages. What does she take away from each of them that ultimately brings her to a better place emotionally?
3. The title is quite significant. How does this factor in to what you already know about the character.
4. Silence places a key factor, as does the ability to speak. Janie often, especially early on in the novel, does not speak when she should. In many ways her inability to speak up for herself cripples her.
