Theft by Finding: Diaries
What is the author's tone is Sedaris', Theft by Finding: Diaries?
.
.
As the book was created based upon the author’s real life diaries, the tone reflects Sedaris' distinct sense of humor and perspective. As the diary extends over a period of time, readers can see Sedaris' skills sharpen over the years and his themes and concepts begin to take shape. Unlike typical diaries that chronicle the innermost thoughts and feelings of the author, Sedaris is less concerned with his own emotions and far more interested in the lives of other people. Therefore, Sedaris' feelings are almost always vague if present at all, and he only refers to his ongoing struggles (with substance abuse, his sister Tiffany and her mental illness, etc) indirectly. Overall, the tone of the book ranges from comical reflections to more poignant considerations all possessing the author's wry observations for which he has become known for.
