Why doesn’t the narrator want others to touch the wallpaper?

The narrator has an increasing obsession with the wallpaper. Because of this, she has become very possessive. She wants no one else looking at it or touching it. She believes that John and Jennie are also trying to help the woman in the wallpaper, but it is imperative that the narrator get to her first.
