What does fog represent?

Fog symbolizes impending doom in the novel. The pea soup fog in "A London Particular" signifies the dangerous journey which Arthur is about to embark on. The fog on the marshes is a warning to passersby, signifying the impending peril which awaits them at Eel Marsh House.
