The dialogue between Snow White and her stepmother shows that the queen is unrepentant, as Snow White seeks to find the reason that the queen has always been intent on killing her. The author alludes to the apple which in other fairy tales is used as the queen's last method of trying to kill Snow White. The queen's answers are ambiguous. She does not commit to fully telling Snow White her motivations, but the comments that she makes suggest that there is a different side to the Evil Queen than anyone has seen. This foreshadowing is particularly obvious when the queen introduces the theme of love as a motivation to her actions, which is in direct contrast to her stereotypical persona.
