Roz’ personality compared with the human characters in the novel offers a discussion on what makes someone human.

As the main focus of the novel, Roz seems the most human of everyone. She has an enigmatic personality and cares deeply for all life- both animal and human. When Mr. Shareef asks her to shoot the wolves attacking the farm, the narrator says “reader, you and I are well aware that our robot was not programmed to be violent. Roz couldn't have pulled that trigger if she wanted to. But she didn’t want to. She was bluffing” (65). Even when the wolf Shadow continues to attack Roz throughout the novel, she never tries to hurt him because she cares about his life as much as any other.
