Why does Eddie confine Bea in the panic room rather than turn her into the police in the novel, The Wife Upstairs?

When Eddie walks in and discovers that Bea killed Blanche, he captures her and confines her to their panic room. He does this because he does not want to turn her in since they live in a death-penalty state.
