Whom does Balram discover waiting for him when he returns to the apartment in "The Sixth Night"? Why?

Balram's nephew Dharam has been sent by Kusum to be taken care of by Balram. He has also brought a letter in which Kusum threatens to tell Mr. Ashok that Balram has not been sending any money home. The makes repeated threats that enrage Balram to the point where he beats the boy.
