"Murder Weekly" is a popular magazine among the servant classes and drivers in New Delhi. Balram is introduced to the pulp fiction through the diseased driver. The references to the gruesome stories in the magazine are blackly ironic, echoing of Balram’s comment at the end of Section 1 about having killed Mr. Ashok, and simultaneously foreshadowing of how that killing happens later in the narrative.
