This image represents key aspects of the book’s plot (i.e. in that Balram feels that he is trapped in just such a physical and/or psychological “coop, and is struggling to get out) and its themes: the freedom vs. servitude theme, the wealth vs. poverty theme, and the Light vs. Dark theme are all evoked by the image of The Rooster Coop.
