What does the letter symbolize that Balram writes home in the end of "The Sixth Night"?

The reference to the letter carries with it an important implication: in the past, when Balram’s family was potentially in danger, he chose to protect them. Now, it seems, he is considering entering a similar situation but this time seems to be preparing to make a different decision. He is willing to sacrifice them in order to escape his servitude.
