How does the author develop the theme/motif of darkness and light in "The Fourth Morning"?

There are several developments in the dark/light theme in the chapter, with the reference at the end of the letter to the chandelier and to the impending darkening of Balram’s story. This theme is also developed through the juxtapositions of poverty and wealth, and through innocence and corruption.
