Uncle Jasper is Henry’s most trusted companion who served with him even into Exile. Jasper is an elderly man who rarely lets himself rest in his duties for the king. His death near the end of the novel breaks Henry, as the latter does not believe he can trust another commander as much as he did Jasper.
