Lady Margaret, Henry’s mother, insists on being called My Lady the King’s Mother. She is extremely ambitious, willing to manipulate her son into doing whatever she believes is right. As a former lady-in-waiting to Elizabeth’s mother, she is well versed in life in the court. Lady Margaret is a religious woman who makes many rules, even for those in the court. By the end of the novel, Lady Margaret has become a paranoid and regretful women. When Elizabeth blames her for Henry’s vindictiveness, Lady Margaret does not refute it.
