Anvil exerts his power over Tucker because he is jealous. Anvil is unhappy at home, and he envies all the things that Tucker has..... the things that Anvil doesn't have. Anvil is hungry, without food, and without permanent shelter. His father is described as "A dirty, half crazy, itinerant, knickknack peddler," and in his own words to Tucker.... "Your old man owns everything in sight. I ain't got nothin.'"
