Why is Jule's acceptance to Texas A&M rescinded in the novel, The Weight of Blood?

When Maddy’s hair get wet and "grows", Jules throws a pencil at Maddy’s hair, and the pencil sticks in the her hair. This is videotaped and sent to the media as is Jules appearance at Halloween in May in blackface. Once it is revealed that Jules did this, her acceptance to Texas A&M is rescinded.
