The Weight of Blood
How does Maddy change over the course of the novel, The Weight of Blood?
.
.
As the protagonist, Maddy changes the most of any character in the novel. She is fearful of everybody at the beginning, and she is terrified of people finding out that she is Black. She grows in self-knowledge once she no longer has to hide who she is. She becomes bolder once she learns of her powers because she no longer has to fear anyone, including her father. She can now make her own decisions. She finds a kindred spirit in Kendrick, and it is through her belief that she lost the only person who ever loved her that she destroys the town.
