Mirabell is the most important character in the play. He is perfect gentlemen with certain character faults. He tries to win Mrs. Millamant's hand through a highly complex scheme, but he is never crude like Petulant, Sir Wilfull or Wilfull. He is not currently involved in an affair like his friend Fainall.
