Mirabell pretended to love Lady Wishfort to disguise his feelings for her niece Mrs. Millamant. Students may say that 'In my opinion, this is very far fetched and something hard to believe. I don't believe in autumn-summer romances.' or students may agree with Congreve that such a scenario is possible given that autumn-summer romances do occur.
