Mr. Foster’s beard represents his deceptive nature. When Mr. Foster is bullying Mrs. Foster in the car, Mrs. Foster tries to read Mr. his facial expression. However, she can barely notice the expression of satisfaction on his face, because it is covered by his beard. Mr. Foster’s beard is like a mask that hides his true emotions and intentions. Thus, it presents Mr. Foster as deceitful and untrustworthy.
