The Waves
What is significant about the way Section 2 is introduced?

Woolf introduces Section 2 by building off the images created for Section 1. The sun has risen higher in the sky, yet the birds refrain from fully enveloping themselves in morning song. The reader should infer from this that it is around 7 in the morning. Woolf describes the sun's light as being "sharp," while she compares the beams to "blades." The way this section is introduced is not entirely comforting because of these particular images, which often go hand-in-hand with violence. From this, the reader can guess that the characters are to face some kind of crisis.
