In Section 4, the sun is described as being at its fullest power with a particularly calm atmosphere, leading the reader to assume that is about midday. In this way, Woolf is suggesting that the characters are at the point in their lives where they can reach their potential. It is important to note at this point that Woolf does not clarify or hint at whether the characters will actually accomplish such a feat but rather that it is possible. However, this fact should be qualified by noting how Woolf describes the way in which the sun can exaggerate the appearance of some objects.
