The section is composed of parallel structures. The three boys are leaving for school just as are the three girls. Woolf composes this section by having the three boys all give their perspectives and the three girls give their perspectives. We still see into each character's mind via his or her monologue, but they are grouped by gender. This indicates to the reader that the characters are yet to find their individual identities, and that they still identify with a particular group.
