Who is Elena in the novel, The Villa?

Elena is the woman working at the Villa Rosato during the summer of 1974. While staying at the villa, Emily learns that Elena is the current housekeeper Guilia's aunt. Guilia informs Emily that the 1974 murder and Elena's testimony during the trial ultimately ruined her life. In the media, however, reporters assert that Elena's involvement in the case in fact granted her freedom and fame she otherwise would not have had.
