What does Emily come to realize in the conclusion of the novel, The Villa?

Emily and Chess meet up in New York City after the publication of their book The Villa. The friends are in town in order to attend a book signing at the New York Public Library. Before this event, they meet up at a café, where they discuss upcoming collaborative projects. During this outing with her friend, Emily begins to realize that she may not be free at all. Although she is rich and famous, free to travel as she likes, Emily feels trapped by Chess.
