Upon his conviction and sentencing, Baker threatens to kill Hardy and Ingraham. However, during his time in prison, Baker learns to channel his anger into more positive actions. Baker goes home with the desire to clean up his life and get a good job. Unfortunately, the social structure of the projects leaves Baker in a position in which he must enter into a conflict with a local drug dealer. When this drug dealer ends up dead, Baker runs out of fear. Baker tries to turn to Hardy, but is caught breaking into the home of Hardy's ex-wife and shot. Everyone believes Baker is responsible for killing the drug dealer near his home as well as Ingraham and his girlfriend. However, Hardy comes to believe Baker is innocent and in the end is able to prove it.
