The Valley of Amazement is written from the first person point of view of two main characters. The first narrator in the story is Violet Miniturn. She narrates the first eleven chapters of the novel. The next three chapters are narrated by Lucia, Violet’s mother. The last chapter returns to Violet’s voice as she narrates the conclusion. Violet’s point of view is important to the novel as her life is central to the story. The only reason that the viewpoint of the novel switches to that of Lucia for three chapters as these cover details of Lucia’s life that would not have been known to Violet. These details are important as they help the reader understand Lucia as a person.
