Fairy tales are the main theme. Fairy tales can typically be defined as a story that contains fantastic elements, as well as a lesson or moral. There is a distinct difference between fairy tales and fables although many cultures lump them all together. This is unfortunate, because the structure is quite different. In a fairy tale there is typically an underdog who faces a difficult situation. Through strength, fortitude and perhaps the intervention of a benevolent force, the hero prevails and the characters live happily ever after. The theme contained in fairy tales tends to be somewhat subtle.
