"She dragged the deathbed outside and burned it like a funeral pyre. He was already buried in the Homeplace cemetery with the rest of her people. But it was like she had to see something go up in flames."

"Goblins used to hide in the coal tipples, fairies lived in the basements of the company stores, and the mountains were magic. Now they're just tipples and closed-up buildings and Trace Mountain is being stripped."
