A recurring idea is the author himself. This book is an autobiography—of a sort. Since Donohue rarely goes into the details of his past or his personal life, readers might not consider it a real autobiography. We do not learn about Donohue's childhood here. However, readers are taught something important, very early on. Mark writes that one the realities of his life is that his professional life pretty much consumed his entire life. As such, this work that traces his career is about his whole life.
