Red Jetty is the sheriff of Money, Mississippi. Like many other members of the town, he displays certain aspects of ingrained racism. However, he undergoes an internal shift during the novel’s events and begins to behave more respectfully towards the Black detectives Ed Morgan and Jim Davis. He also reflects on his parentage and believes by the end of the novel that his father was a Black man who was killed by the white man he knew as his father.
