Why is Sammar's faith so important to her in the novel, The Translator?

Sammar's faith symbolizes home. No matter where she is, her devout religious beliefs allow her to feel a sense of belonging. She longs for Rae's conversion, so that they can make a home and life together. At the end of the novel, Rae tells Sammar that their faith is not limited to one place, thus suggesting that Islam grants them safety, security, and belonging no matter where they are and what they experience.
