How does Meg definitively sever her ties to Nero in the novel, The Tower of Nero?

Meg’s rings represent her connection to Nero and the history they have together. The scimitars are what she learned to use when under Nero’s abuse. And while they gave her the strength to fight her enemies, it also bound her to him as she was completely reliant on him. By casting aside the rings in the final battle with Nero, Meg is throwing away the last thing that connects them and forging her own path.
