Tin Princess is written in the third-person point of view. The narrator of the novel is the author, Philip Pullman. The use of the third-person point of view allows the author to provide background and historical information to the reader. It also allows the reader to learn of events that happen away from the main character. If the novel was written in the first-person point of view, the knowledge of the reader would be limited to the knowledge of the first-person narrator. The reader would have no knowledge of other events until the first-person narrator learned of them. This approach would not work well in an action-packed suspense novel like Tin Princess.
