Why does Temi purposely leave crumbs on the couple's floor in the novel, The Three of Us?

By dumping the chips on the floor and making a mess in the couple's house, Temi is showing that she does not care about the husband's expectations. She conducts herself in a way that angers the husband but that evidences her free spirit and independence.
