Alina's main conflict can be found in ensurung her family's survival, doing what was necessary to make sure they were provided for, even if in doing so she put herself in danger. Her determination to locate Tomasz puts her entire family in danger.

Alice is young and irresponsible. She is concerned by the dangers surrounding her family and confused by her parent's actions... lying about produce and livestock. None-the-less, these concerns will not keep her safe in she continually forgets to do what is necessary to ensure her own safety, namely taking responsibility for carrying her ID card and staying put. As a teenager, she balks at these restrictions and goes so far as to sneak out at night.
