What do the wagons used to transport prisoners represent in the novel, The Tattooist of Auschwitz?

The wagons that the young Jewish men are transported to Auschwitz in were originally designed to transport livestock, and this represents how the prisoners are treated without human dignity. They are herded like animals and they lose their rights and freedoms.
