The speaker describes the sun rising above the mountain tops and shining its “freshening” and “sweet” light upon the green fields of the valley (6, 8). Light, especially when it is described in such a positive manner, is often associated with concepts of learning and revelation. Thus, this literal light, coming from a force of nature, represents the sort of enlightenment that nature is capable of bestowing upon the individual.
