Throughout the poem, nature is personified to the extent that it becomes a character in its own right. Nature is personified first and foremost as a teacher and a giver of wisdom. The speaker refers to nature as a feminine entity, using the feminine pronoun to describe it in the fifth stanza. Nature is also described as breathing wisdom and truth through its health and cheerfulness, implying that it is a life-giving entity as well.
