Why was Baldwin sentenced to die?

Baldwin was sentenced to die because he was accused of committing a crime with Horsely, even though Horsely said he committed the crime alone. Baldwin had been shocked with a cattle prod until he confessed. The jury was all white. No one would listen to Horsely that Baldwin was not involved in the crime.
