The language of The Strange Bird is very analytical and descriptive. Because the perspective is that of the Strange Bird, the language describing new objects and situations is at first very naive. For example, the author uses many descriptive terms to describe new objects that the Strange Bird encounters. Upon analyzing these objects, however, the Strange Bird takes a very aloof and distant view of them. These personality traits, likely a result of Sanji being a part of the Strange Bird, strongly affect the language used in the novel. In contrast to the sometimes analytical language typical of a scientist, the Strange Bird’s animal nature also strongly affects the language used. A key part of the language used in this novel is the reference to many characters by a title instead of their name. The Old Man and the Magician are not referred to by their real names. This use of a simple title reflects the Strange Bird’s animalistic nature and lack of concern for trivial human customs.
