summery of 1st chapter

The Story of My Life is the autobiographical story of Helen Keller, famous philosopher and writer who was deaf and blind. It was first published in 1903 at a time when those who were deaf and blind were generally written off as uneducable.

Chapter once covers Helen's early life, her life in Alabama. She was born into a very wealthy family and her hearing/sight were fine until at the age of 19 months she suffered an acute fever (maybe scarlet fever) which left her without her sight or hearing. This first chapter chronicles what her life was like prior to her loss of her sight and hearing.
