Helen Keller writes, "that living word awakened my soul, gave it light, hope, joy, set it free!" In this phrase she is referencing the freedom and sense of connection that she was able to have because she now had words, and with words, language. She had felt removed and isolated all of those years, not being able to share her thoughts or ideas with the outside world at all.
