The first point to note about the use of language in this work is that because it is a play, the story emerges primarily through dialogue. The audience comes to understand what is happening and why almost entirely as a result of what the characters say, and how they say it. This particular play, however, is different from many plays in that much of what the characters say comes in the form of narration – i.e., in Bella offering descriptions of what is happening to the audience.
