Mooréa, French Polynesia

Mooréa (or Mo'ore'a) is an island in the South Pacific, its name means "yellow lizard" in Tahitian. It has an area of 134 square kilometers, and its highest elevation point is at 1200 meters, known as Mont Tohive'a. Its population is around 20,000 with a density of about 140 people per square kilometer. The island was formed from a volcano and is a site of a lot of scientific research. Apparently, Darwin was inspired to his theory of coral atoll formation when looking at the island from Tahiti. Montgomery travels here to conduct diving research on octopuses.
