Darkness represents civilization returning to a post-technological world. As the evening turns into night, darkness descends on the city. In the darkness, the world loses its physicality and the characters begin to resemble mere apparitions floating in the emptiness and speaking into the void. Without technology, the world has become unknown and unrecognizable and this unknowingness is a kind of darkness enshrouding the world.
