The jogging woman represents a sense of normalcy. Jim and Tessa first see her running through the van window. She keeps a steady pace and is indifferent to the rest of the world. When Jim and Tessa leave the clinic to walk to Max and Diane’s apartment, they both feel it would be reassuring to see her again. The fact that seeing her would be reassuring suggests that she is a symbol of hope, comfort or at the least a fleeting sense of normalcy.
