This manuscript is an obsession of Martin’s that points toward an understanding of reality that is not based on the visible world. Einstein’s theory of relativity is rooted in the ability to see “the unseeable” by looking beyond physical manifestations of reality and studying theoretical conceptions of reality instead (29). The manuscript also helps Martin understand the way that Einstein’s brain worked, as he crossed out ideas and worked out the equations on paper. Technology obscures this connection to the written word. In this way, the manuscript links the world of the mind to the physical world of phenomena and written language.
