The most interesting part of the way this novel is written is the way that King interjects the thoughts of characters as he writes. King uses italics to capture a character’s thoughts. For instance, during Jack’s interview with Ullman, the derogatory thoughts that Jack is having about Ullman are in italics. Sections of text set off by parenthesis indicate bits of thoughts and memories from the past. For instance, in Chapter 3, Jack’s memories of the instances behind Danny’s broken arm are cordoned off by parentheses.
