Significance of Prejudice

Through the experience of homelessness, Ray and Moth discover the prejudice that people exhibit towards those less fortunate than them. When they are honest about their situation—that they lost their house and that they have nowhere else to go but to walk—they are met with fear and made to feel shame. But when they lie and say that they decided to sell their house and go on a long walk as a mid-life adventure, they are seen as an inspiration. This is hypocritical and judgmental and they struggle to come to terms with people’s cruelty.
